How to put & read e-books and magazines on PSP?

Have you ever wanted to read an e-book or magazine on your PSP? There is a variety of premade e-books and magazines for PSP available on the Internet, but what should you do when you have a e-book or magazine and do not know how to read it on the PSP? PSP does not have any kind of integrated e-book reader, if you do not count in Internet Browser. You can read certain files directly from PSP’s Internet Browser which can be buggy, but you can read almost anything if you convert it to JPEG’s and here’s how to do it in few easy steps.

This tutorial will explain how put e-books and magazines to your PSP, and how to read them afterwards. This tutorial is written assuming that you know how to establish USB connection between your PSP and your computer, and copy photographs to your PSP. If this is not the case, head to our tutorial How to connect Your PSP to Your computer, afterwards read our tutorial How to put photographs on your PSP, and after that read this tutorial in order to put and read e-books and magazines on PSP.

Prerequisites

  1. JPEGBook Application
  2. An e-book or magazine in TXT format
  3. PSP Device

Step 1 ~ Download JPEGBook
Download JPEGBook application to your computer, from the link above or from here. Download is 420Kb in size and will take only a few minutes if you have dial-up connection, or even less than minute if you have broadband connection.

Step 2 ~ Extract the JPEGBook
Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP archive. Archive is named JPEGBook.zip and you can extract it’s contents wherever you want on your computer. When the extraction of JPEGBook.zip is completed you will find six new files, with jpegbook.exe alongside.

Step 3 ~ Convert the e-book or magazine
Run extracted jpegbook.exe from the folder where you have extracted it. In the Text file field enter the full path to the e-book or magazine you want to convert, or browse for the file by clicking on the folder icon on the right of the field. Set the output folder by filling in the Output dir field, or browse for the folder by clicking on the folder icon on the right of the field. Other options are additional customizations of the conversion and it is not necessary to modify them, but if you want to experiment, you can set the background image four your new e-book or magazine, set the margins or even the output size of the files. When you are ready hit the Start button and wait for the JPEGBook to convert the e-book or magazine.

Step 4 ~ Copy converted e-book or magazine to the PSP
Connect your PSP to your computer with the USB cable (see the tutorial here), and when the connection is established, head to output folder you specified for conversion. Copy all of converted JPEG files from the output folder to your PSP (see the tutorial here).

Step 5 ~ Read!
Disconnect your PSP from your computer, and on your PSP head to PHOTO option in the menu. Select Memory Stick option and a list of photographs (in this case your e-book or magazine) will appear. Select the first page and start reading!

Conclusion
Like we said, there is the way to read e-books or magazines directly from PSP’s Internet Browser, but it has proven to be buggy (because of memory limitations), and is bit more complicated than this. Most important downside of this method is conversion itself. An e-book or magazine which is TXT file of approximately 350KB in size, will result in approximately 19MB of JPEG’s.
