Firmware 3.90 is out, Skype PSP comes alongside

Sony has just released v3.90 update for PSP firmware. Usually this is not something of much interest, but this time updated firmware is bringing Skype to the PSP. This upgrade is currently available only for US and Europe PSP fans, since Japanese firmware update was delayed. Remember Skype PSP is available only if you have PSP Slim.

Update is available via Network update or as a download from PlayStation website and it will (just like promised by Sony) deliver Skype to your PSP. Before you start the upgrade process do remember that in order to use Skype PSP you will need following:

  1. WiFi Access
  2. Skype compatible headset for PSP
  3. Skype account

After installation, Skype PSP will allow you to chat with friends via PSP to PSP, via PSP to PC or alternatively via PSP to another Skype enabled device like mobile phone. Calling from your PSP is available, just like dedicated numbers, and if you want to know more head out to Skype website.

Besides Skype PSP v3.90 of Sony’s firmware will not change much except some updates for PlayStation Network titles. A Go!Messenger icon is added too, but you will not be able to use it until the service’s launch, expected at the end of February. Go!Messenger, will enable both the new and old PSP consoles to use video and voice chat.
