Apple denies PSP competition is in the development

After the rumors about Apple gearing up to release some competition on the handheld console market, denials from the iPhone giant start to come to light. Apple recently registered for trademarked device that looked like handheld console, so are the denials real or just marketing coverup?

First denial of the Apple push to the gaming market comes from the unnamed source represented as “senior” in the development sector. Speaking for the Develop, unnamed source had no reassuring words about the gaming device in the works.

Apple is very protective of the reputation it has built in the electronics market, so don’t hold your breath for an announcement of an ‘iGame’ console just yet. From our discussions, it seems Apple is happy working the way it does, courting individual companies and handpicking who it thinks can make the best games or has the best development abilities when it comes to growing the stable of iPod games - although I wouldn’t rule out Apple beefing up that approach and commissioning more games for its portable devices.
