Delayed: Japanese Skype PSP

Just hours ahead of expected release of Skype PSP for Japanese fans, Sony pulled the plug and announced the delay. Reason behind this unexpected delay is Sony’s dissatisfaction with the Skype PSP Headphones and it’s microphone not meeting the expectations.

Pushed back release of the Skype PSP wasn’t dated and currently it seems that Sony will wait  for the Skype PSP headphones/microphone to be improved. Fortunately for the rest of us, Sony did not push back US and European release dates which were later both confirmed by the number of other sources.

Your PSP doesn’t have enough memory for Skype. Yeah, right.

Since the recent announcement that Skype PSP will not work on Phat PSP’s we were annoyed but managed. Now we’re insulted, annoyed and angry. We could (partially) understand that Sony wants to boost PSP Slim sales. We could (partially understand that the way to do is is by exclusive features. But to claim that Skype PSP will not work on Phat PSP’s just because of lack of memory, we can’t understand.  Nick Sharples from SCEE tried to explain, but it seems that we aren’t sharpest tools in the shed.

Nick Sharples, SCEE
Although PSP-1000 and PSP-2000 are identical in basic functions, there are differences in hardware specifications to some extent and for that reason, PSP-2000 may differ in features from PSP-1000. We had studied the possibility of supporting Skype with PSP-1000 but had to give it up because of the smaller size of main memory on PSP-1000 series.
